Steve began his real estate career at the age of nineteen when he received his real estate sales associate license. While earning his finance and real estate degree at Florida Atlantic University, he began his commercial real estate career at Coldwell Banker Commercial (now CBRE) as a market analyst. Steve was promoted to an associate position specializing in industrial sales and leasing. He later accepted a position leasing and managing a troubled neighborhood shopping center. Through his leasing efforts, Steve was able to increase the occupancy of the shopping center and again make it a profitable asset.
Steve earned his law degree at the University of Florida, focusing his course work on property, land use, environmental, finance and other real estate related subjects. He also earned a master’s degree in real estate from the University of Florida, specializing in real estate finance and development.
Upon graduation, Steve took a position with The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. His responsibilities included underwriting and originating commercial real estate mortgages and equity investments. Steve worked from the company’s Miami office originating large transactions including the financing of apartments, office buildings, industrial buildings, manufactured housing communities and retail centers, including a luxury super regional mall. He also headed a $29 million equity investment for Northwestern through the acquisition of a 302-unit luxury apartment community.
Seeking an entrepreneurial platform and diverse capital sources, Steve joined the boutique mortgage banking firm, Carey Kramer Company (“CKC”) as a mortgage banker. Through CKC’s relationships, he was able to greatly expand his relationships with capital providers and better accommodate his clients’ varied needs. Steve was promoted and relocated to Orlando, Florida to manage the company’s production office there. Through various mergers and acquisitions, CKC became part of two large national companies, first, as Collateral Real Estate Capital and later as Grandbridge Real Estate Capital. Once again, Steve sought an entrepreneurial platform and created Mench Real Estate Capital in 2012.
During his 31 year career in commercial real estate, Steve has completed over $1.2 billion in transactions. He is active in the commercial real estate industry and stays current with industry trends and events by attending regional and national commercial real estate conferences. Also, Steve is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), a member of the University of Florida’s Real Estate Advisory Board and a member of the Florida Bar Association.
